Samsung unveils another big-screen smartphone in the Galaxy Grand 2
Samsung on Monday unveiled another big-screen smartphone in the Galaxy Grand 2. The handset features a 5.25-inch display operating at 1,280 x 720 with a 16:9 aspect ratio that Samsung claims is perfect for playing games, watching movies and reading books.
If you haven’t already figured it out, the Grand 2 is far from a flagship device. Other specifications include a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, just 8GB of internal flash storage and a 2,600 mAh battery with a promised 17 hours of call time and 10 hours of video playback. The good news on the storage front, however, is the inclusion of a micro SD card slot that’ll facilitate expansion.
Elsewhere, the Grand 2 ships with an 8-megapixel rear camera with a number of Samsung photo-based software features like Best Face, Best Photo and Continuous Shot. Other Samsung staples that will arrive on the Android 4.3 handset include S Travel, S Translator, Story Album S, Samsung Hub and Samsung Link.
The phone comes equipped with two SIM card slots which would be great for international travel although the lack of 4G LTE compatibility (HSPA+ instead) will leave some looking for other solutions. It’ll be available in white, black and pink, we’re told.
Samsung said the Galaxy Grand 2 would be available in select regions but didn’t name any specific markets, a launch date or pricing. What’s more, we are told there are currently no plans to bring the handset to the US. Fortunately, there is no shortage of big-screen smartphones for those in North America to choose from.
